After you have received your Certificate of Eligibility, go to the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country and submit an application for a college student visa. Please take your Certificate of Eligibility, your passport, and the letter of admission or notification of acceptance (copy) sent by the university. You will not be able to enter Japan as an international student if you do not have this visa.

For residents of Japan

[ Procedures to change status of residence ]

If your status of residence at the time of university admission procedures is not applicable for university studies, such as a short-term visa or pre-college visa, please take the letter of admission or notification of acceptance (copy) sent by the university to the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice and apply for change in status of residence to one that is applicable for admission to a university, such as a "college student" visa. Please note that there are cases where the authorities will not grant a change in residence status. Please inquire at a regional immigration bureau near you for details.
Note: If your status of residence is not a "college student," you will not be eligible for scholarships, health care subsidies, or other privileges available to international students.
